Dangers of Sweets and Junk Foods

Food really is the best. Through the years, food has  been continually evolving to suit everyone's  taste  and preference, thus leading to mass production of sweets and junk foods that provide us with immediate satisfaction. However, due to this drastic change of food from simple rice, vegetables, and meat to complex artificial food production, the effects it create should not be overlooked anymore, since the capability of food has extended beyond immediate satisfaction, and can even create long term effect on our health as human being.

Moreover, , nowadays, more and more people have been consuming sweets and junk foods in an exceptionally large amount, and in most cases, this is caused by stress and depression due to peer pressure, family expectations and working conditions. In my case, I’m particularly prone to the alluring sensation of sweets and junk foods when I’m under a lot of pressure, but lately, I’ve been controlling my diet after knowing all the unfavourable and dire consequences of excessive consumption of sweets and junk foods.

Sweets, despite all of its delicacy, can create changes on our energy levels by giving it a quick boost followed by huge slump, leading to mood swings, excessive perspiration and headaches. Excessive intake can also provoke chronic diabetes, obesity, and tooth cavities, for sweets render our teeth vulnerable to bacteria attack. Furthermore, overindulgence in junk food can ruin our health in several ways. First of all, it reduces our level of nutrition, since most of them have no essential nutritional alimentary component at all, and most of the time, we neglect other healthy foods, such as fruits and vegetables, after filling our stomach with high amount of high-fat calories, carbohydrates, and cholesterol, which may as well increase the risk of having heart diseases, such as cardiac arrest and atherosclerosis. Second, it brings down our energy level, and makes us feel sleepy and less inclined to be active and alert. If not taken seriously, our senses and reflexes may become dull at the course of time, and we would not be able to live a fruitful and meaningful life due to the downside of being an addict to these addictive “drugs”, which in this context, refers to the sweets and junk food. Other “bad” foods which have similar effects such as the above are soft drinks, pastas, pretzels, cereals, canned foods, bacon and sausages, french fries, and doughnuts.

Now, knowing how food can be at the same time beneficial and destructive towards our health, it is therefore just appropriate to be choosy and mindful of the food we eat, since it concerns not only our present, but also our future, whether we will be able to live a long, healthy life, or will be spending the rest of our life time bed ridden.
